Sul Ross expands international program

By August 23, 2018No Comments

The International Studies program at Sul Ross State University is growing in global leaps and bounds thanks to the leadership and dedication of Dr. Esther Rumsey.

The Director of International Studies was a co-sponsor during the first trip to Europe in 2008 when the newly formed Travels with Sully program was instituted. She took over the program in 2010. Rumsey then became the study abroad coordinator under a federal grant geared toward student success, before being appointed to her current position.

The university offers three basic programs for students who want to travel abroad and immerse themselves in another culture.

Rumsey also said the International Studies program will expand with an addition to the library near the Tutoring and Learning Center. A grand opening is planned for Sept. 12.

The president and vice president of Texas International Educators Consortium will attend the opening, and talk to the faculty about ways to include more international visitors as speakers and scholars, and also to expand student travel opportunities.
