Oasis in Brewster County

By July 20, 2016No Comments

When living in the largest desert in North America, where can a body go to hear wind rustling through leaves while contemplating life at water’s edge? This shady haven does exist, and it’s close to the heart of Brewster County.

The Post Park in Marathon, also known as Pena Park, is an oasis in the desert that many locals don’t know about. The county-operated park is located five miles south of Marathon on Avenue D, nestled between outcrops of the folded and contorted Caballos Novaculite cliffs amid miles of quiet ranchlands.
