National Park closes a few trails to protect bear population and hikers

“Bears are an important Big Bend resource, and visitors particularly enjoy the opportunity to see them. However, during this period of the year, the added presence of camper food and cooking aromas can present conflicts we want to avoid, for the sake of both our backpackers and the bear population.” Alternative areas for camping throughout the park remain open to the public for normal use, including the three developed campgrounds.
