Sheriff Ronny Dodson, who has served in his office since 2001, is seeking re-election to a fifth term in the March 1 Democratic Primary.
A fifth-generation Brewster County resident who was born and raised in Alpine, Dodson has been in law enforcement for his entire career after graduating from the police academy in 1982. He is licensed as a Master Peace Officer.
Dodson was the first Brewster County resident to be elected sheriff. The others all came from somewhere else, he said.
“My grandmother told me if you can’t do anything else, be a cop,” he quipped.
