Cowboy poetry revival in the works

By May 23, 2019No Comments

A new cowboy poetry gathering is gaining momentum after a meeting on May 11 in Alpine City Councilman Rick Stephens’ airplane hangar.  For the immediate future, the focus was on continuing what was formerly called the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

To help that happen, Texas historian and nonprofit advocate Bob Saul shared a plan of action with a crowd of about 20.

Saul attended the last Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering in February. As soon as the news broke that its board was calling it quits, he got busy networking, certain the show must go on, even if it meant starting from scratch.

It will take hard work, regular meetings, and lots of cooperation to pull off a new event, but Saul believes it can happen. He will be making frequent trips to Alpine from Fort Worth to lend support, while drawing on a broader Texas network.
