(We know the government shutdown is over but Brewster Co. was ready to help)

Brewster County commissioners met on Jan. 9 and agreed to set aside $100,000 to help Big Bend National Park. County Judge Eleazar Cano announced that the Brewster County Tourism Council received a request from the council’s Executive Board to access emergency reserve funding for the park while the federal government shutdown is in progress. Cano also announced that Emergency Management Coordinator Stephanie Elmore would be promoted from temporary part-time to permanent part-time status. He said the position might evolve to full-time status based on work demand.
