Caboose on track for renovations

By October 26, 2017No Comments

The bay window caboose located across from the Amtrak station and behind Railroad Park is undergoing a facelift thanks to a partnership between City of Alpine and Brewster County residents Heidi and Scott Wassermann.

Owned by the city.

As part of its downtown beautification efforts, the Alpine Downtown Association had suggested finding a new use for the caboose, and with the city’s blessing, the group brainstormed several ideas. It all depended on who would step up and take on the project.

The Wassermanns saw it as an opportunity to expand their petting zoo business, Wassermann Wranch in Sunny Glen, and jumped at the chance to work out a contract with the city.

“We’ve been trying to get into town since we started [the petting zoo],” Scott explained, adding that entry prices for downtown rentals can be high for small businesses.
