Alpine woodworker delivers style, detail to Big Bend

By December 28, 2017No Comments

Custom Woodworks of Alpine owner Nate Harris has been working with wood for 30 years. He brought his talent for restoration and custom cabinetry to the Big Bend area 21 years ago, and business has never been better.

The company has enjoyed extraordinary success due to the care and detail Harris and his team put into their work.

“Right now, we are booked,” said Harris. “It is booming. We have slow spots, but usually we stay four to eight months behind.”

The holiday season, in particular, has proven to be a cut above the rest.

“I always worry about Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s,” said Harris. “People don’t want their kitchen torn up. But every year so far, that’s my busiest time. About a month before Thanksgiving, they start pouring in. Right now we’re probably booked through June. People will wait for quality work.”

It is said that the best woodworkers make the fewest chips. While large projects such as cabinetry are Harris’s bread and butter, he does not shy away from special orders.

“I do whatever anybody wants,” said Harris.
